A2: Vitra Museum Transformation Concept

- 150 Word Conceptual Notion -

"With regards to a design transformation upon Frank Gehry’s ‘Vitra Design Museum’, I hold the intention of using the designs basic forms and architectural elements to compose a conceptual yacht. Through forms which portray a sense of fluidity will one be able to capture a juxtaposition between the structural and organic elements of Gehry’s design to compose a representation which alters ones original perception of the structure through the individual’s unique re-interpretation. The contextual nature of such a transformation interconnects with Gehry’s original design intentions regarding the formation of an expressive and spatially unique space, as my yachts design will utilise the spatial aspects of the various forms and elements from the Vitra Museum to present a design which re-interprets the general perception, while remaining to portray a sense of Gehry’s unique spatial dimension. A dimension which I will achieve through the interconnection of the various unique elements, arranged with the sense of fluidity in mind."

The image above portrays the notion of a spatially unique space with reference to a sense fluidity as desired within the design of my own transformation.

The image above conveys a unique inspiration I have discovered, as through a pure interpretation and analysis of particular design elements within this motor cycles design will I be able to portray the required structural sense within my transformation. As Jeremy stated in a recent lecture, some designers gain inspiration through another random designed object. Such is why I have included this inspiration. As the structural elements are covered by fluid forms (mainly on the top of the motor cycle) which is evident with the Vitra Museum, as unique curves etc cover the structural workings of the building.

The image collage above presents the notion of conceptual yacht design with a particular sense of expressive fluidity as evident within the Vitra Museum. Through the various examples provided can one identify the contemporary design notion I am striving towards with a particular identification on the scale of the yacht I wish to produce. In particular we identify the forth image which presents a rather sculptural design while remaining fluid.
